An Artist Creates Grand Design in a Compact Space

From the porch of the 1920s condo at 1027 St. Charles Place, you feel the refreshing breeze of a lively neighborhood while inside there is a peaceful poise. The owner’s vast art collection hangs majestically from the walls. Stately furnishings hold court in each room – don’t miss the distinguished grandfather clock and the grand piano. Artwork from Atlanta’s own Ben Smith, a late 60s era painter, local student work and Ron’s own work (which to this admirer is a mix between Hopper and de Chirico) fill the space and the soul of all who pass them. The high ceilings and picture moulding accentuate the refinement of the interiors. Ron and his partner Dale claim they only did cosmetic renovations to the space, however, perhaps they are just being modest. The kitchen, which Ron designed himself and uses daily, is a work of art that no one should miss seeing. No detail was overlooked. The bedrooms have no closets, so each has a beautiful antique armoire. The highlight of the renovated main bathroom is an antique sideboard, which holds the sink. Its brass fixtures were replated in nickel to match the rest of Ron’s design. The half bath was also renovated. Smithsonian Collection wallpaper covers what once was 80s décor, mostly red and black. The historical series wallpaper, rich with ivory and teal, is matched with uncanny accuracy by a mirror, which was found after the wallpaper was hung. This home showcases contemporary design and antique furnishings with regal flair.

This home is also featured in AJC's homefinder.
