| A Tour de Force Even the Second Time Around |

If you took part in one of the earlier Virginia Highland Tour of Homes, you might remember David Fowler’s home at 854 Highland Terrace. David renovated the home using his love of wood and eclectic mix of modern and craftsman styling. When Pamela and Colin Papner purchased the home they bought it for just that reason. Once you walk to the door outside, look up and enjoy the wood craftsman style awning. Inside, the dark wood banister captures your attention and the design is mimicked in the white wood inset around the cast-iron fireplace. The kitchen is a light colored wood and very modern using streamlined cabinetry with smoked glass. The back porch is screened in so you get to enjoy an Atlanta night breeze without a bite from a mosquito. The porch overlooks the reason the Papners purchased the home in the first place…a large backyard where Pamela is trying to grow tomatoes, if only her lovely dogs wouldn’t eat them. Off the kitchen you’ll find a small sitting room, bathroom, and office, which could easily be transform into a private guest suite. Downstairs is another wonderful space for an office and workout room. It has exposed walls and ceilings that give it industrial warmth with large windows and glass wood framed doors to bring the light inside the area. Upstairs is the master that feels a bit like a tree house with a huge central window set (that takes up the entire back wall) and a small deck all eye level with the trees. The master bath uses a long single slice of wood as the vanity. The upstairs also has a large laundry room. The guest bedroom is filled with well…fish. Look around, you’ll find more than one painting with fish and even crystal fish hanging in the window. Needless to say, Pamela calls this her ‘fish room’.
